HR tells employee she needs to work 2 more months following resignation despite working 3-month notice period: 'I stayed out of goodwill'

The day that you stop wanting to do a job should be the day that you are able to leave.

Nonetheless, workplace etiquette dictates that when an employee decides that a job is no longer for them, they have to give their employer time to process this bombshell. Replacing a worker that they may not have been planning on replacing can prove an annoyance for any manager or company, but it is all part of how the system works. There is a chance that even the most loyal of employees will feel the need to move on someday.

Infuriatingly, though, many companies make it much more difficult than it needs to be when those who work for them want to leave. It is understandable to need some time to process the request as a courtesy, but after a certain point, the demands on a departing worker can become ridiculous. There should be a reasonable plan in place for when somebody departs that doesn't involve making the whole thing needlessly more difficult for them. Just because they do not have to think about this particular employee's satisfaction level anymore does not mean that they are justified in messing them around.

In this story, a woman was at her wits' end after the HR department at her company insisted that she needed to extend her notice period for the second time. She had initially resigned in October, but she was told that she was expected to continue working until February.
When she did that and submitted her resignation again, HR told her that the person who had instructed her in October no longer worked there, and as such, this meant that the agreement was no longer viable and she would have to work another two months. She didn't want to stay at the job for that amount of time and sought out advice on how to proceed in the situation.
I already served notice period, they requested I stay a few months longer but my employer is forcing me to serve again
